This Whole30 Garlic Herb and Apple Breakfast Sausage recipe is so delicious and easy to make for your Whole30! Prep ahead and freeze them as well!

There was a time and place in my life where Whole30 was exactly what I needed and wanted, it was the perfect way to move away from calorie counting and into a more natural way of eating. That being said; that time came to an end, but I still love eating the recipes that I came up with during that time. I love the idea of filling my plate with greens, veggies and protein, even if it also has a dash of cheese. These Garlic Herb & Apple Breakfast Sausage are an absolute show stopper and have amazing taste and texture and come together relatively quickly.

A bowl and your best cast iron skillet is all you need to have these protein packed goodies on the table and ready to be devoured. Mix all your ingredients into a bowl and then shape the sausage patties, making sure they are not too thick. Next add some avocado oil or butter to the caste iron skillet, or which ever skillet you prefer. Make sure you leave enough space in the pan and you don’t crowd the patties, this will ensure they all get cooked evenly.

Can you freeze these breakfast sausages?

Yes! These would be perfect to make for meal prep and have for the week. Once these are cooked be sure they are cooled completely, then you can lay them on a baking sheet and pop them in the freezer. Once they are completely frozen you can put them in a ziplock bag and keep them in the freezer until you need them.

What are these best served with?

Have you ever had an egg over easy? This is the perfect partner for an egg over easy, pure perfection. If eggs are not your jam another amazing mate is a bed of spinach sauteed in the pan after you have cooked these sausages. If you are not following Whole30 and just love these sausage patties like I do feel free to pair with a slice of cheese and an english muffin. Another great way to start the morning.

Fresh vs. dried herbs?

If you are able to use fresh ingredients, that’s always recommended for most recipes. Fresh herbs bring a depth that you can’t always reach with a dried herb. This being said, if dried is all you have, that works wonderful.

These Garlic Herb & Apple Breakfast Sausage are an absolute show stopper and have amazing taste and texture and come together relatively quickly.
Prep: 10 minutes
Cook: 10 minutes
Total: 20 minutes
Servings: 4

Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground turkey , can be substituted with chicken
  • ½ teaspoon garlic, minced
  • ½ cup apples, minced
  • ¼ teaspoon rubbed sage
  • 2 teaspoons dried parsley
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon pepper

Instructions

  • In a medium sized bowl combine ground turkey or chicken, minced garlic, apples, sage, parsley, salt and pepper. Stir or mix with hands until fully combined.
  • Bring a pan over medium high heat and spray with oil spray or a little drizzle of oil. Scoop chicken into small patties and press them down in the pan with the back of a spatula (if you put some oil on the back of the spatula it shouldn’t stick!). Cook for about 2 1/2 -3 minutes per side. Enjoy!

  1. Do you ever make ahead and freeze? If so what’s your suggestion for defrosting and reheating? Thanks! Love your recipes!

Just made these. So easy and so good! Just wish I bought more ground chicken so I could make a huge batch at once.

I made these using chicken but I also added thyme. They are the best breakfast sausages I have ever had. Thanks for the recipe!

I made these yesterday and ate a few for breakfast immediately and just reheated them perfectly for breakfast at work. I doubled the recipe after looking at the initial comments and I added a dash of cayenne and nutmeg to the mix because why not? When I make these again I’ll swap the fresh garlic for garlic powder. I’m not the biggest garlic fan and think it would be more subtle (and easier to mix in) using powdered next time. I used Kelsey’s awesome spatula trick to flatten the sausages and then pan fried them in avocado oil for 2 minutes per side and finished them off in a 350 oven for 10 minutes or so until they were cooked completely – this also enhanced their growing. Thanks for a great recipe Kelsey!

  5. These are so good, and easy! Perfect to have a quick bite. Thanks for the recipe! I freeze them after a few days and just microwave for a minute.

  6. I’ve made these each time I’ve done a Whole30, and even sometimes when I’m not doing one. They’re THAT GOOD. And easy to make. Doing a mini W30 reset right now, and these were the first thing I thought to make for breakfasts! Thanks, Kelsey!! 🙂
