What Makes This Recipe Great

Like most of you I have found myself perusing the aisles of Target every so often, especially during the any holiday season. Most seasons Target comes out with a season Crunch or Trail Mix like Harvest Scarecrow Crunch or Apple Cinnamon Mix, usually they are delicious but also packed with all sorts of ingredients. I had the need to create something myself and the Apple Cinnamon Chex Mix came to life. With just butter and brown sugar, cinnamon and nutmeg to bring all the other ingredients together, you have less add ins and less proceed ingredients without losing any flavor. Since I created this recipe I have made it multiple times for families, parties and of course for the kids to munch on after school. The perfect crunch and the my new favorite way to bring in autumn.

Pro tips

  • If you don’t love Chex cereal Cheerios will also work!

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I make this gluten free?

  • Yes, with soo many gluten free cereal options you should have no issue finding one that is similar to golden graham for the graham cracker flavor. Apple Chips are naturally GF and pretzels are easy to find in the glute free form. Everything else should be good on the gluten free front.

Where do I find Apple Chips?

  • They can usually be found in the same aisle as the dried fruit and nuts. They can also be found in the baking aisle by the chocolate and such. Bare Snack brand is my preferred kind but any dried apples will work.

  1. I wanted this to be so delicious but unfortunately it got too dark and tastes a bit burnt. I’m assuming my oven must run hot unless you have any other suggestions? Going to try another batch tomorrow at a lower temp and see if there is a difference.

    1. Make sure you are tossing the chex mix every 15 minutes while it’s in the oven, this will make sure it does not burn. I would also slide a thermometer in the oven to check the temp.
