What Makes This Recipe Great

A few simple ingredients that can make the most delicious and fun appetizer for your next football gathering. While I continue to create fun and inventive foods to share at your next football bathing, I decided it was high time to create some lighter and possible aimed at the other ladies and moms that are now becoming football fanatics like myself. Sometime you just want a taste pinwheel while watching a touchdown run!

The Prosciutto Fig Pinwheels has the perfect flavor profile with mustard, gruyere cheese, figs and prosciutto cheese. I originally tried this recipe with fig jam and the pinwheels melted and crystallized to the sheet pan, mainly because the sugar in the jam. So the second round I tried with whole figs that I sliced and then places with in the puff pastry.

  • Puff Pastry Sheets– these are found in the freezer section
  • Dijion Mustard
  • Figs– grab whole figs and take the pit out
  • Prosciutto
  • Gruyere Cheese

Step By Step

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Lightly flour a cutting board and unroll the thawed puff pastry. Use a rolling pin to slightly thin out the pastry.
  3. Spread the Dijon mustard evenly over the puff pastry.
  4. Sprinkle the Gruyere cheese over the mustard, then place the chopped figs in a line down the center.
  5. Lay the prosciutto evenly across the entire pastry.
  6. Roll the pastry tightly like a cinnamon roll, ensuring figs are spread throughout each slice.
  7. Wrap the rolled pastry in parchment paper or plastic wrap and freeze for 10 minutes to firm up.
  8. Once chilled, slice the roll into 16 pinwheels using a sharp or serrated knife.
  9. Arrange the pinwheels on the lined baking sheet and bake for 25 minutes, until golden and crispy.

Can I use Crescent Rolls?

  • Yes, crescent rolls can be used. Just be aware that the rolls will be a bit softer than the puff pastry. Make sure you pinch the ends together to ensure they stay together while they bake.
