Celebrate with a Holiday Old Fashioned—classic bourbon, warm spices, and festive flavors perfect for the season!

This Holiday Old Fashioned is a delicious twist on a classic cocktail!

What Makes This Recipe Great

The definition of a an Old Fashion is a classic whiskey cocktail with bitters, simple syrup and fruit, so this holiday addition is perfect. The need to create a few twist on a classic came with our yearly holiday party we throw for our friends and family. We have been celebrating for than a decade and it has become a staple on the calendar. Each year I try to create another fun cocktail that is themed and celebrates the season.

It is pretty similar to a regular old fashioned but we added some triple sec and rosemary and used maple syrup for a little sweetness.  If you have large ice cubes those are awesome for old fashions but I like regular ice cubes because a little extra water melting into them is just fine by me!

Ingredient List

  • Maple Syrup– natural maple syrup is preferred in this recipe.
  • Water
  • Rosemary– check your backyard, you may have a rosemary bush

  • Luxardo Maraschino Cherries– these are cherries designed specifically for cocktails

Frequently Asked Question

Can I make this in a large batch?

  • Yes, this can totally be made into a large batch cocktail for a party. Just be sure to measure out 6-8 ounces for a single cocktail. These are strong and you want to make sure your party guests know the correct sized drink.

  1. Fantastic approach. Thanks! No maraschinos in the house but did have maraschino liquor. Just matched the triple sec.  To cut the sweet a bit more I hit a few more dashes of bitters and would highly recommend rye or a prohibition style bourbon like Old Forrester 1920 Prohibition Style. Happy Holidays!

  2. Oh. My. Gosh. This was a HUGE hit at our Christmas party this weekend (aka our Kelsey inspired Christmas party). It was incredible. We had a couple who are both bartenders and they loved the use of the triple sec!!
