Healthy Peanut Butter Brownies (Gluten Free)
These Healthy Peanut Butter Brownies are filled with nourishing ingredients like avocado, applesauce and almond flour, making them gluten free!
Have you ever been cleaning up the kitchen after dinner thinking about what dessert you could make and crave a chocolaty brownie just sweet enough to cure the craving with going to overboard on the sugar. These are the brownies that will answer all of your craving for thick chocolaty brownies that don’t make feel heavy afterwards. The combination of avocado, applesauce and maple syrup take care of the sweetness factor while the peanut butter, almond and arrowroot flour and the cacao take care of the structure of the brownie. You might be thinking that the addition of an avocado will ruin the taste of a chocolate brownie, but it does nothing of the sort. It does a wonderful job of bringing good fats to the recipe without drying the brownies out.
How should I store them?
If you even have any leftovers hanging around after you these amazing treats are baked, there are a few ways you can store them. If you plan on eating them with in the next few days store them in the fridge, this will make sure they stay fresh and not get stale. Another option is to wrap them in plastic wrap and keep them in the freezer, pull them out at least an hour before you want to enjoy them to allow them to come to room temperature.
Can I make these without eggs?
This recipe already has applesauce in it which is a common substitute for eggs. The suggestion would be to bump the applesauce up to one cup and omit both eggs. Another option is to replace the eggs with a mashed banana which is another common swap for eggs, just know you may have a slight banana taste to the brownies which I see no downside to as chocolate, peanut butte and bananas are amazing trio. Lastly you can always swap egg with a flax egg!
Natural vs. regular peanut butter?
Natural peanut butter is always the go to with most recipes on the site, regular peanut butter usually had added sugars and oil which can change the taste and texture. Natural peanut butter usually only has peanuts and salt, this helps the brownies stay healthy without sacrificing peanut butter taste. Also feel free to use any natural nut butter you enjoy may it be almond, hazelnut, cashew, or sunbutter.
What makes them healthy?
Most classic brownie recipes combine butter, white sugar and baking chocolate to create the rich chocolate flavors. These brownies take an opposite approach with the combination of avocado, applesauce and maple syrup for the sweetness. Combined with almond flour, arrowroot flour and cacao powder which makes it a delicious fudgey treat!
