Clean Thousand Island Sauce
If you have had In n Out at any point in your life (or yesterday if you are lucky), you have probably had their “special sauce”. It’s basically just thousand island dressing and it is AMAZING. I love it on burgers so a few weeks ago I whipped some up with what we had on hand and it was sooo delish!! It only takes 3 ingredients to get this clean thousand island sauce together and it will change you grilling game for good!
First start with some super clean mayonnaise – I love this & Tessemae’s Mayo! Then add some tomato paste and a chopped up pickle. That’s it!!! The key to this whole recipe is finding quality ingredients. Check your labels for no artificial flavors and colors. It is mind blowing how hard that can be. I only found one brand of pickles without added “yellow #5”. So take the extra time and look at those lists, it is sooo worth it!! Same with the mayo – most of them have TONS of ingredients but you can find a few with a very little ingredient lists that will rock your world.
So with that, I give you my fave new condiment!
Here is a sneak peek at the California Tuna Burger I will be posting this week! It went perfectly on these babies!
We know you are going to want to make a few more homemade dressings and sauces:
Raspberry Vinaigrette {Whole30}
Paleo Thousand Island Sauce

Can’t wait to slather this on all of my future burgers, looks SO good! And also pretty excited about that upcoming turkey burger recipe 😉 Thanks for sharing girl!
Woo hoo! It’s soooo good!! Enjoy!! 🙂
just made this dipping sauce to serve with our turkey burgers tonight. so yummy! there was leftover sauce, do you think that will keep in the refrigerator? it seems a shame to throw it out.
I am glad you liked it!! It should stay good in the fridge for about a week!
Didn’t the pickles have sugar in them?
You can find pickles without sugar and that is what I suggest!
What was the brand of pickles did you use?
How long would this keep in the fridge please???
I would say 1-2 weeks depending on what Mayo you use!!
I made this and found it blah– I used garlic and onion and apple cider vinegar to spruce it up a bit. I highly recommend the vinegar– it’s the secret to in n out yumminess!

So sorry you didn’t like it! definitely needs to be salted well and vinegar sounds great!
I agree with Lauren. It’s definitely lacking something. I’ll try adding vinegar.
Do you use sweet or dill pickles?
Dill, I make sure there is no sugar added for mine, you can really use whatever kind you like best!
I loved this! I use it on top of salads and added just a couple of dashes of Frank’s Hot Sauce – SO GOOD.
