Paleo Hot Chocolate Mix
I DID IT!!! I freakin love hot chocolate. I have the fondest memories of getting home from water polo practice or swimming growing up and being freezing so my mom would make me a piping mug of hot cocoa. It is so comforting and the perfect dessert on a cold night. I love having a mix on hand so when you are tired at the end of the day you can just add some hot water and voila! This combo is so easy but an essential part is some coconut milk powder – which luckily is easy to find on amazon HERE. Matt and I have been enjoying a mug of these for the past few nights and we either top them with coconut milk whipped cream or smashmallows! I also recommend adding a dash of peppermint schnapps to your hot cocoa because its DELISH.
If you look at a standard store bought hot cocoa the first two ingredients are sugar and corn syrup solids, followed by a list of vegetable oils and a bunch of words you can’t pronounce. It is insane!!! Especially when you see how easy it is to make this recipe. Using coconut sugar sweetens it beautifully and is not refined like typical white sugar and coconut milk powder keeps it dairy free while still super creamy and delish!
Doesn’t that just look so incredible??
Topped with dairy free whipped cream! Reddi Whip now makes both an almond milk and coconut milk option and they are both delicious.
This powder will get me through the colder months and I hope it does for you too!

Yum! I just bought a bag of cacao powder at Costco; I’ll be trying this tomorrow!
Great!!
I’ve been using this in my coffee all week – it’s SO good!! And was so easy to make too, perfect amount for a mason jar!
YAY!!
This is DELICIOUS!!! First hot chocolate I’ve been able to have in over a year after developing a dairy allergy. So easy to make too!
★★★★★
So so glad you like it!!
Thanks for a quick and easy, flavorful recipe! Any tips on how to make it non-clumpy? I suspect the coconut milk powder is challenging me… (Oh and trying to mix it up in the vitamix didn’t help , hahaha!)
★★★★★
I just use a hand held milk frother and hot water and it mixes super quickly!
SO good! The perfect not-too-sweet mix to have with a little Bailey’s! 😉

This recipe is SO GOOD! I was skeptical I’ll admit. I’m very picky about my hot chocolate, but this gets two thumbs up from me! My kids love it too. No more Swiss Miss in this house!

So easy and sooo good! Never buying pre-made hot chocolate mix again!
★★★★★
So easy to make and absolutely delicious! I made a double batch and store it in a large mason jar. If you tie a ribbon in the jar it would make an adorable gift . . . but I’m keeping mine!
★★★★★
Love this recipe. I made it with monk fruit sweetener and it was good! Definitely would have been delicious with coconut sugar but I was trying to find a low sugar option. My kids gobbled it up and said it was yummy.

So yummy! I’m dairy free and had given up on hot cocoa since all of the previous recipes I’ve tried failed big time. But this one. Holy moly. Just make it already!!!
★★★★★
I love it, and was just craving a cup, when I saw your post, asking for a rating! Unfortunately, I am out of town, and my cocoa mix is home, 150 miles away!
It is delicious….

★★★★★
Delicious! I stopped drinking coffee and this is the only thing that’s getting me through!
Awesome!!
I just made this but without the powdered coconut milk and it’s so good and just what I want. Not too sweet where you get a stomach ache but still totally hot chocolate! Gave it to my daughter and she won’t stop talking about hot chocolate
★★★★★
That is amazing!!
We’re dealing with an early ice storm in Oklahoma so it was a perfect day to make this recipe. It’s so delicious! I added a pinch of cinnamon and cayenne after my cup was made. I will be making this for Christmas gifts!
★★★★★
How perfect!!
This is delicious! I prepped some in a glass jar and I’m bringing it to my office tomorrow because…Toronto weather got me all FREEZING already!! I’ve been mixing some into my coffee for a mocha…is that wrong?! LOL Nope!! Thanks for an easy, yet much-needed health upgrade to the crap that’s in the stores…my three kids are thanking you as well 🙂
★★★★★
Making a mocha with it is the best!!!
Trying to figure out something to replace my sweet drink from Starbucks that I can make from home and is a bit healthier! Love this!
★★★★★
Yes!! Perfect!
Great!
★★★★★
This is so great! I made mine without the powdered milk and just mixed it into my warmed “coconut beverage”. It is just the right amount of sweetness and chocolatey warmth to literally fill your soul on a cold day. What a wonderful recipe and treat! Thank you!
★★★★★
Great idea!!
Oh my gosh this is so good! Easy to make and nice dairy free option. I made with a combo of water and oat milk. Mini marshmallows for the win.
★★★★★
So so glad!!
I love this hot chocolate mix!!
★★★★★
So glad!!
So good made it tonight! Couldn’t tel you the last time I had hot cocoa and a dairy free version! Thanks Kelsey!
★★★★★
Awesome!!
So yummy! Not too sweet so it’s almost savory! A really great healthy alternative to those packets or tins of hot chocolate mix!!
★★★★★
Yeah!! Enjoy!
I made this recipe tonight and it was amazing. My 4yo daughter’s been wanting hot cocoa to go see Christmas lights but all the store-bought stuff is full of junk so I decided to make it at home. She’s a tough crowd but she absolutely loved it. I also love that it’s dairy free. Side note: I actually sifted it before putting it in the mason jar and it was clump free and mixed super easy. I also used a handheld electric frother to mix it into the hot water. Delish!
★★★★★
Love it!!
I am very impressed about how good this tasted. I’m not sure if the cocoa powder I used was extra rich, but mine turned out very chocolatey – I think I would half the amount to add to the water. I am excited to have hot chocolate that is dairy free this season!
★★★★★
That’s great!!
Love this!! I’ve made it for gifts through quarantine. I also add a bit of cinnamon and top with coconut whipped cream.
★★★★★
Great Idea!
This hot chocolate is my favorite, the bite from the cocoa powder makes it extra delicious. I feel like I just ordered hot chocolate from a very fancy place or the hotel hot chocolate in France!
I need to get a bigger container to make it in because I go through it so quickly, some might say I have a problem with the rate at which I consume it!
It’s perfect with whipped cream and sprinkles. I’ve recently discovered it’s absolutely delicious in coffee-I’m trying to become a real life grown up who likes coffee haha
★★★★★
What a complement, thank you!!
I don’t drink coffee and love hot chocolate so was really excited to try this. I have made it a few times and discovered (for my taste) the type of cocoa powder matters. My coconut milk powder is also chunky and found it doesn’t completely dissolve in the warm milk with just a spoon. Using an immersion blender or milk frother fixes that though! I also add more coconut sugar as the plain cocoa powder is bitter for my tastebuds.
I recently made the chocolate syrup from LBO and it is so delicious. I used that in my hot chocolate and it hit the spot.
★★★★
Great adaptions!
We’re loving this recipe! Thanks so much for posting it.
Yessss!
Amazing hot chocolate!! Left out the powdered coconut milk and mixed the cocoa mixture with steamed oat milk. Delicious 🙂 I bet it would be nice with some peppermint schnapps.
★★★★★
Yes that sounds perfect.
Thank you so much for this recipe! 2 of my little ones don’t do well with dairy and I can just make a batch of this for the whole family!
