A fun and tasty twist on the traditional burger and coleslaw these Thai Turkey Burgers with have you craving a burger night.

You know I LOVE me some turkey burgers so I whipped up some with a Thai twist that will knock your socks off!  You gotta try these Whole 30 Turkey Burgers Thai Style! I love using ground turkey in burgers and meatballs because it’s affordable, absorbs lots of flavors and is a great lean protein I can have for any meal! I may not be eating Whole 30 style any longer but I love the lessons that I learned while doing the program, this includes lots of veggies with meals. Even if you have never been done or been interested in doing Whole 30 this recipe is still a game changer, with chopped up veggies and a slaw vinegar to top it off, use whatever ingredients you have in the kitchen.

My turkey recipes on this site really are endless from my Tomato Basil Turkey Meatloaf to Curried Turkey Sloppy Joes in Sweet Potato Bowls

That is the beautiful thing about turkey – versatility and ease!  I have also noticed that lots of stores I shop at – like Trader Joes or Ralphs, have been coming out with new types of cuts of meat like turkey.  I have seen turkey breasts, cutlets and tenderloin which is amazing for someone who cooks a lot and likes to switch it up!  Now onto this burger – let’s talk sauce!

Sauces makes my world go round so for this baby I made a quick little almond butter based sauce to drizzle all over the patty and add even more flavor and texture.  And speaking texture – slaw to the rescue!  A quick slaw comes together to balance out everything with a dash of vinegar flavor which I live for.  Then I did a cabbage lettuce wrap but feel free to use any bun you love. I have also made this with no wrap or bun and actually made it into a burger bowl. The options are endless when you have soo many fresh ingredients and layered spices to freshen things up.

Can I use a different ground protein?

You can for sure use ground beef or ground chicken to make these burgers.  They will come out with a bit of a different taste, but still be delicious.

Can I freeze these burgers?

Yes, I suggest if you are going to freeze them I would opt for a meatball form rather then a burger. Make the balls and either cook them and cool them then freeze; or freeze them raw and cook when you need them. This will ensure that they are moist and delicious when you need them.

By: Kelsey

  • 1 pound ground turkey
  • ½ cup shredded carrots
  • 1 tablespoon chopped cilantro
  • 1 green onion, chopped
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil or avocado oil

Almond Butter Sauce:

  • 2 tablespoons almond butter
  • 1 tablespoon coconut aminos
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar

  • 2 Tablespoons almond butter
  • 3 Tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 2 Tablespoon coconut aminos
  • 1 Tablespoon water
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • ¼ teaspoon ground ginger
  • 10 oz bag of coleslaw mix
  • 1 tablespoon chopped cilantro
  • 1 head of cabbage

  • In a bowl combine turkey, shredded carrots, 1 tablespoon cilantro, green onion, salt, garlic powder and ground ginger.  Mix with your hands or a wooden spoon to fully combine.
  • Divide into 4 pieces and form the pieces into patties (about the size of your palm).  Turn your grill or pan on medium high heat and once the pan is hot, add oil.  Place patties on the pan and cook for about 4 minutes per side, until they reach an internal temperature of 165ºF. Remove and set aside.
  • In a small bowl combine all of the almond butter sauce ingredients and set aside.
  • In another medium sized bowl combine 2 tablespoons almond butter, 3 tablespoons rice vinegar, 2 tablespoons coconut aminos, 1 tablespoon water, ½ teaspoon garlic powder, 1 teaspoon sesame oil and ¼ teaspoon ground ginger.  Whisk to fully combine then add in coleslaw mix and cilantro and toss to coat.
  • To make burger, peel off pieces of cabbage and top with a burger patty, some almond butter sauce and coleslaw!

So delish and easy!! We made the meat crumbled instead of into burgers for a more “bowl” type dinner! Will definitely be making it again! I should add my 15 month old loved everything!!

  2. These are amazeballs!!   I used cashew butter bc that’s what I had but everything else the same.  They are now a staple in our house!

I just made this recipe for the third time. It’s a winner. The only changes I made are this- I make 8 sliders instead of 4 burgers, and I serve it on butter lettuce instead of cabbage.

I’ve been making these for years and my family loves them. It’s hard finding something everyone will eat, 5 year old, 3 year old, husband and me, but these do the trick every time! Delicious, moist, flavorful, and easy to make! SO good! Highly recommend!

I recently found this recipe and wow these are amazing! The slaw is the star for me. My husband (who normally doesn’t eat coleslaw even liked it)! I think next time I might add a little sriracha to the coleslaw just for extra kick! Thank you for this recipe!
